Jonathan Downin is an Associate Attorney with Asonye & Associates. He has extensive experience in the field of immigration with many successful petitions for both business and personal immigration clients. Among Jonathan's accomplishments are numerous immigrant and non-immigrant visa approvals including those in the following categories: H-1B, National Interest Waivers, L, EB, and O; permanent residency and labor certification. In addition to his expertise in immigration, Jonathan also has considerable experience with intellectual property rights issues and dispute resolution, trademark filings, corporate document drafting, and contract-to-closing real estate deals. Jonathan has been admitted to practice before the bar of the Supreme Court of Illinois.
Jon is an attorney at Asonye & Associates. He has significant experience assisting clients in a variety of matters, including claims under Trafficking Victims Protection Act and the Alien Torts Statute. Jon has advocated for clients before Federal courts, as well as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Jon has been admitted to practice before the bar of the Supreme Court of Illinois, as well as by the Supreme Court of Minnesota.
Jon obtained his law degree from University of Minnesota Law School, graduating in 2018. In law school, Jon served as a student attorney with the Human Rights and International Advocacy Clinic. During law school, Jon also worked as an extern for the Honorable Kevin Burke at the District Court of Minnesota in Hennepin County, Minnesota and took part in the Civil Rights/Civil Liberties (Maynard Pirsig) Moot Court.
Prior to attending law school, Jon graduated from Drake University, where he earned a degree in History and Law, Politics, and Society.
Sedenia Johnson is the Officer Manager at Asonye & Associates. She has earned her Associates in Applied Science with her major as a Paralegal from Northwestern College in 2009. Sedenia is currently a member of Alpha Beta Gamma, a Business Honor Society.
She currently assists all staff members with various legal tasks and other administrative duties. Sedenia dedicates herself to the law firm of Asonye & Associates and continues to enhance her life activities and education.
Kajal Patel is a Law Clerk at Asonye and Associates. She is a second-year law student at Loyola University Chicago School of Law. She is currently an Articles Editor for the Public Interest Law Reporter as well as an Associate Editor for the International Law Review. After her first year of law school, she worked as a Summer Judicial Extern at the Circuit Court of Cook County, County Division. Kajal received a Bachelor of Social Work from Loyola University Chicago in May 2020.
Aya Kassar is a Law Clerk at Asonye & Associates. She is a third-year law student at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law. During law school, Aya completed a judicial externship at the Domestic Relations Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County, an internship in prison civil rights litigation, and worked for UIC Law's International Human Rights Clinic. Aya placed as an octo-finalist at the Dean F. Herzog Moot Court Competition and aspires to become a litigator and advocate. Prior to attending law school, Aya received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Global Studies with a minor in English Language and Literature from Benedictine University in 2019. Aya is also a fluent speaker and writer in Arabic.
Natalia Miller is a Law Clerk at Asonye & Associates. She is a first-year law student at the University of Illinois-Chicago School of Law. Prior to pursuing legal studies, Natalia worked with international students at both private colleges and public institutions in Indiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. She has 7 years of experience in cultural adaption counseling, advising students on F and J visa regulations, and identifying community resources for refugee resettlement.
Prior to attending law school, Natalia received her Bachelor of Arts in German Studies and International Relations from Northern Michigan University in 2014. While Natalia was studying abroad in Vienna, Austria in Fall of 2012, she discovered her passion for immigration law, human rights, and legal advocacy. She currently assists all staff members at Asonye & Associates with immigration processes, legal drafting and research, and administrative duties.
Natalia is proficient in both oral and written German.
Miranda Fotis is a Law Clerk at Asonye & Associates. She is a second-year law student at the DePaul University College of Law. During the Fall Semester, Miranda is a student-attorney for the Asylum and Immigration Clinic, where she works with various clients on asylum petitions, work authorization, and other family-based immigration processes. She in continuing this work during the current semester as well. Miranda is also a member of Phi Alpha Delta, the leading co-ed professional legal fraternity promoting integrity, professional competence, liberty and equal justice under law. Prior to attending law school, Miranda received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Justice Systems from Truman State University in 2020. While in undergrad, she was exposed to multiple immigrant populations in the surrounding community. This inspired her to pursue immigration law and policy while in law school. She currently assists all staff members at Asonye & Associates with immigration processes, legal drafting and research, and administrative duties.
Dan is a Law Clerk at Asonye & Associates. He is currently enrolled at Southern Illinois University School of Law where he is a member of the law school's Law Journal as well as a member of the school's Moot Court team.
Dan is also civically engaged having organized voter registration drives and public demonstrations. From 2018-2020, Dan was an aide to the Mayor of Chicago's political team. Beginning in June 2021, Dan served as the First Vice President of the Young Democrats of Illinois.
